Previously, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe gave fans of “Outlander” hints about what they can expect from this upcoming season. In order to not give away too much, the pair limited these hints to five words, one of which is “home.”

When one of the trailers of “Outlander” Season 4 was released, this single word proved to be quite vast in the whole scheme of things. The upcoming installment will have Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) build the foundation of their home in the early days of North Carolina, Elle reported.

It goes without saying that laying this foundation down will have a lot of obstacles along the way, most of which will come externally. Indeed, “Outlander” Season 4 will explore the life of Americans who were living in the year 1760 and will have Claire and Jamie go through a lot in order to find their place in this unfamiliar land. But it’s not just the characters who will be undergoing these challenges as Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe revealed they too went through a lot together.

What’s more, both stars are incredibly grateful for the opportunity of exploring their characters, an activity that they do so often it has become second nature. “We always talk to each other about it and what we feel rings true to us,” Caitriona Bale Balfe said. “That’s been one of the great things about this show, being able to have someone you can collaborate with so easily and work together. We’ve invested so much in them and we have definite ideas about who they are.” Sam Heughan feels the same and even refused to utter a line last season because he felt it was out of character for Jamie.

This sort of immersion is what makes “Outlander” so popular among its fans. This popularity is resonating so deeply that even though season 4 has yet to air, the show’s mother network has already greenlit a fifth season for the historical drama. As such, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe will start filming season five early next year, something that both actors are looking forward to.
