Bruno Fernandes has been linked with Manchester United all summer long after Sporting CP lost to Valencia in a 2-1 defeat. Fernandes’ despondent reaction after the defeat convinced a lot of fans that his transfer to Old Trafford is inevitable.
United has apparently agreed to a £62million (€70m) deal with Sporting for the transfer as the Aug. 8 deadline winds down. However, rumors would have it that the deal hasn’t been set in stone just yet and Bruno Fernandes’ transfer is still uncertain amidst trade negotiations.
The 24-year-old was slated to head to England for a medical exam with United, but that has been supposedly delayed, Express reported. Instead, it appears that United is eyeing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and even Bruno Fernandes isn’t sure about the deal.
Bruno Fernandes himself appears uncertain
“I told I'd like to play in England, but I don't care about it right now. If it could be this season? It could be when the club decides, I'm not in charge,” Bruno Fernandes said.
United wanting to acquire Fernandes stems from the team wanting to shore up its mid-fielder position following the exit of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini. Herrera has now taken his talents with PSG, while Fellaini was sold to Shandong Luneng in January.
United has ten more days to sign Bruno Fernandes as the deadline is scheduled to end next Thursday. As of this writing, there’s still no concrete news if the aforementioned medical has taken place.
Bruno Fernandes will be the third most expensive transfer for United
United has been keen to acquire Bruno Fernandes after he shone with Sporting during the team’s 2018-2019 run. If the Red Devils sign him, Fernandes will be the third most expensive player for the team. Midfielder Paul Pogba and striker Romelu Lukaku are the only two additions that have commanded a heftier price.
Hopefully, United release an official statement soon as fans are itching to know if Bruno Fernandes will indeed be playing on Old Trafford. The midfield position for the Red Devils sorely needs a strong player to fill the role and Fernandes’ skills can easily satisfy that need. News about the transfer is expected to occur in the 48 hours as negotiations appear to be reaching its final phase, TheWhistle reported.
