Now that the release of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 has been confirmed, there is one big question remaining: Is this going to be the show’s final installment?

Fans of the police procedural sitcom (who include some big names in Hollywood) had a short panic attack after its former network, Fox, announced that it would no longer order a “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6. But NBC took the chance immediately and announced just days after that it was saving the show.

While the announcement of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 is good news for all fans, there is one downside. NBC ordered only 13 episodes. This cuts the sitcom's normal season run by almost half since the show had at least 22 episodes in the previous installments.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” managed to maintain a solid fan base, but records show that its viewership ratings have been declining through the five seasons. It is possible that NBC does not want to risk too much and decided to just commit to a standard 13-episode run for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6.

Reports also noted that some of the cast member’s statements might be implying that “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 is, indeed, going to be the final chapter. Melissa Fumero, who plays Amy Santiago, said in a social media post, “Thank you to NBC for giving us the opportunity to finish this special show!”

For hopeful fans, however, they may also take note that back when Fox first bought the show, it only planned a 13-episode season 1 as well. But, lo and behold, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 1 aired with 22 episodes and remained that way until its fifth installment.

As for the show’s plot, it is also going to be an interesting “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 considering how things ended in season 5. The upcoming season is probably going to focus on Amy and Jake Peralta’s (Andy Samberg) married life as NYPD officers. Fans will finally learn whether or not Capt. Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) becomes the first-ever openly gay African American commissioner of the NYPD.

Meanwhile, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 is expected to premiere sometime in 2019.
