‘Blade Runner 2’ lead actor Ryan Gosling revealed his excitement over his new role in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s cult favorite classic. Gosling’s partner Eva Mendes and their two children were spotted arriving with him in Hungary for the start of production.
According to Metro, Gosling couldn’t contain his excitement over the new film during an interview with SciFiNow Magazine. He said, “As an actor, to be a part of a project like this is unbelievable. It’s unreal, but they are being very secret about the project… Obviously Blade Runner is a seminal science fiction movie. It really set the bar, and is probably one of the most borrowed-from science fiction films, aside from Alien.”
The 35-year old actor added, “There’s certainly a lot of excitement around the project… a huge responsibility as well… I think we all feel that, but we’re not doing it on our own. We’re doing it with Ridley (Scott) and with Harrison’s help, and they are experts.”
Gosling is set to star opposite original ‘Blade Runner’ lead Harrison Ford in Villeneuve’s follow-up to Ridley Scott’s iconic tech-noir and science-fiction film first released in 1982. His character remains unnamed. He was previously rumored to take over Ford as the younger version of main protagonist Rick Deckard but this was eventually proven wrong.
According to Film News.co.uk, Villeneuve’s new film is set several decades after the events of the original. Gosling revealed in a previous interview that the sequel will be an extension of the first film and is not considered a remake. No new details of the film’s plot have been released as of the present.
Production has commenced in Hungary ahead of the planned release on October 2017. According to Hungary Today, Gosling was accompanied by his partner Eva Mendes and their two children Esmeralda and Amada Lee after landing in Budapest for filming. It was reported that the upcoming film will be one of the nation’s largest-scale movie productions and will take place in Origó studio in Budapest’s District XV, at the Mafilm base at Fót, and at the Korda studio at Etyek.
‘Blade Runner 2’ is yet untitled science-fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. It is produced by Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Ridley Scott, Cynthia Sikes, and Bud Yorkin. Bill Carraro, Tim Gamble, and Frank Giustra are executive producing.
The film is scheduled to be released on October 6, 2017 in the United States.
