Eugeo will be fighting alone in “Sword Art Online: Alicization” episode 18. But aside from the upcoming battle scenes, anime fans should prepare for an interesting story behind Integrity Knight Commander Bercouli.
The title for “Sword Art Online: Alicization” episode 18 is “The Legendary Hero” and it certainly pertains to Bercouli and his backstory. Like the other Integrity Knights, Bercouli’s memories have been wiped away by Quinella a.k.a. the Highest Minister.
To recap, the previous episode ended with Kirito and Alice dangling on the wall of the church with the former attempting to climb up the 95th floor. Meanwhile, Eugeo was inside the church and reached the 90th floor where he found a giant door leading to an entire room of bathing area where he met Bercouli. “Sword Art Online: Alicization” episode 18 will feature Bercouli and Eugeo’s fight but, along the way, Eugeo will find out who Bercouli really was.
Eugeo will tell Bercouli how he hates the Integrity Knights for forgetting their past and what their true purpose was. At this point in “Sword Art Online: Alicization” episode 18, Eugeo is expected to realize that Bercouli was actually one of the founders of the Rulid Village and the hero in a legend he used to hear as a child. But Bercouli now serves as the commander of the Integrity Knights and the oldest among them.
As fans know, Eugeo was born in the Rulid Village and fighting with Bercouli in “Sword Art Online: Alicization” episode 18 will lead to the introduction of the story that Bercouli was actually a legendary hero. It would not be surprising if the upcoming episode will feature some flashback scenes to highlight Bercouli’s good old days. In the other series of the franchise, it was told that Bercouli used to be an undefeated swordsman who despised the Axiom Church. But all that changed when Quinella abducted him and became one of her first test subjects.
By the end of their fight, it is expected that Bercouli will somehow question the story he currently knows about himself. Unfortunately, Chudelkin (a.k.a. The Chief Elder) will arrive to interfere and announce that Bercouli needs to be “reprocessed.” “Sword Art Online: Alicization” episode 18 will air on Feb. 10.
