April 24 will be the day we will last see Norma (Vera Farmiga) and Norman (Freddie Highmore) Bates.
In the series finale promo of “Bates Motel,” we see the unraveling of Norman, as he is being haunted consistently by his already dead mother. Although the promo shows a series of clips from previous episodes, including the mother-and-son murderous rages, we also see how Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell) is keen to killing his stepson Norman for murdering his lover and Norman’s mother, Norma. However, the video also shows that Norman has escaped from the clutches of his stepfather.
Moreover, Dylan (Max Thieriot) is shown holding a gun, and is shown pushing Norman against a car’s hood. Blastr postulates that it may have to do with the fact that Norman has killed a lot of people, including Dylan’s mother-in-law.
An official synopsis for the show’s final season is as follows:
"Season five finds Norman, a grown man now, living a double life. Publicly he’s a happy and well-adjusted member of the White Pine Bay community, but at home Norman struggles; his violent blackouts continue to increase as ‘Mother’ threatens to take over his mind completely. Meanwhile, Dylan Massett and Emma Decody (Olivia Cooke), since leaving White Pine Bay, have been living their lives blissfully unaware of Norma’s death and Norman’s full on descent into psychosis. Unfortunately, for them, they will soon find themselves drawn back into Norman’s insanity, while a vengeful Alex Romero, who is currently incarcerated for a perjury, hungers for a chance to destroy his stepson and avenge the murder of his one true love, Norma Bates."
Meanwhile, Den of Geek revealed that A&E will hold a special after-show following the season finale. “Bates Motel: The Checkout” will be a “commemorative half-hour special will give super fans a chance to celebrate and say goodbye to the series they know and love.” Farmiga, Highmore, Carbonell, and executive producers and creators, Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse will answers questions asked via social media.
