‘Bates Motel’ season 5’s episode 4, titled “Hidden,” will feature Norman as he struggles with keeping his dark secrets. Meanwhile, Romero will attempt to seek safety after escaping prison.
The brief synopsis for episode 4 posted on TV Guide reads, “Norman (Freddie Highmore) examines his loyalties as he guards his secrets and Romero (Nestor Carbonell) struggles to find safety.”
The upcoming episode will feature Norman’s continuing struggle with his emerging dark side, aptly named “Mother.” It seems that things will get more complicated as he deals with his murderous side and growing secrets in the aftermath of the dire events from episode 3, titled “Bad Blood.”
Norman will need to discern who to trust as he is devoured slowly but guilt and secrets. The promo reveals that he will have a difficult time putting his alter-ego in check. It opens to Norman going on a rant as he is forced to evaluate his loyalties.
He yells, presumably at Norma, "I don't wanna be getting rid of bodies or have people chained up in my basement or dump people in lakes.” This is a clear reference to chaining Caleb (Kenny Johnson) up in the basement in the past episode. "What the hell crawled into your pants?" Norma (Vera Farmiga) nonchalantly replies.
It is obvious that Norman needs to blame hallucinations for his increasingly psychotic episodes. In another scene, Norma insists, “I promise that I will always protect you.”
In the final scene from the promo, Norman and Madeleine (Isabelle McNally) are seen making out in the kitchen. He then pulls away in shock after he catches a glimpse of his mother behind her.
The promo also shows Sheriff Dana Greene (Brooke Smith) paying Norman a visit, informing him that Romero has escaped from containment. In the previous episode, Romero was granted a transfer after he was attacked in prison, according to a recap on Entertainment Weekly. However, he escaped from custody and was shot in the stomach by a kid after attempting to steal a car from a farm.
‘Bates Motel’ season 5’s episode 4, titled “Hidden,” is scheduled to air on A&E on March 13, 2017. It was directed by Max Thieriot and written by Torrey Speer. It will be followed by episode 5, titled "Dreams Die First," directed by Nestor Carbonell and scheduled to be released on March 20.
