BTS proved once again how popular they had become worldwide when it was revealed that they already beat Drake and Ariana Grande in terms of world tour ticket sales. The group surpassed the American music superstars by topping the list of artists with the highest ticket sales.
According to Metro UK, data shows that BTS’ ticket sales from January to April was higher than Drake, Post Malone, Panic! At The Disco and Spice Girls who took the second to fifth spots in the top 5 list. BTS also bested Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Pink and Shawn Mendes who are in the top 10 in the top-selling artists' chart.
The Kpop group is currently on their “BTS World Tour: Love Yourself” tour and while they have already completed most of their gigs in Asia, they have yet to perform in North America, Europe and back to Japan and South Korea. Their concerts were all sold out so no wonder, the idol group took the crown from Drake for the most tickets sold in the tour.
The ticket sales data was collected from StarHub, the world’s largest marketplace for concert and event tickets. The organization was also surprised by the results and acknowledged that Kpop’s popularity and BTS’ are unstoppable now.
“K-Pop is certainly having its moment in the music scene at the moment and rising in popularity at an unstoppable rate,” Mirror UK quoted StarHub’s spokesman said. “It was a really surprising result to find that BTS surpassed the likes of Drake when it comes to ticket demand, suggesting that the new music craze is here to stay.”
“We see many trends in music and sport through our ticket sales on StubHub, what remains consistent is that fans are increasingly enjoying being in the moment with their idols,” he added.
Meanwhile, BTS just released their “Map of the Soul: Persona” album and needless to say, it was topping the music charts left and right. The massive success of the album was very evident when the album placed no.1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This also marked BTS’ third time to have made it to the top spot, a feat that was only previously achieved by the likes of Beatles and Monkees.
