It has only been five months since Asus unveiled its newest Republic of Gamers mobile phone, but the company appears to have at least one more gaming-focused device in the pipeline. A new leak claims that a product called Asus ROG Phone 5s is slated to launch soon, revealing some of its core technical specifications.
In previous years, Asus introduced a multi-device lineup of its annual iteration of the ROG Phone. It was also the case when the Asus ROG Phone 5 series was announced in March as the lineup featured a standard model, along with an ROG Phone 5 Ultimate and ROG Phone 5 Pro. These three phones were made available in different markets in April, June, and July, respectively.
The report comes from well-known tech leaker Mukul Sharma, also known as stufflistings, who tweeted a photo about a device called Asus ROG Phone 5s. Sharma refers to the product as a “2021 new 5G gaming phone,” suggesting that it should enter the market in a few months.
Tech fans might want to take this with a grain of salt. But it is also worth noting that Sharma’s has a decent record in providing accurate leaks over the years.
While the unannounced device is called Asus ROG Phone 5s, it does not seem like a less superior version of any ROG Phone 5 models released earlier this year. But it also does not have that many upgrades. It appears that one of its few advantages is launching with the Snapdragon 888+ chipset.
The same source indicates that Asus ROG Phone 5s will also ship with 16GB RAM + 256GB storage and 18GB RAM + 512GB storage configurations. But these options were already available on the base ROG Phone 5 and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate. The “S” version device will sport a similar battery with 6000mAh capacity and 65W fast charging. It reportedly sports an OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, similar to the other ROG Phone 5 variants.
Unfortunately, the tweeted photo does not include a render of the device. But considering the similarities in the technical specs, the Asus ROG Phone 5s likely sports a 6.78-inch display and has the same design elements as the other devices in the series.
