Assassin’s Creed: Origins Is A Mix Of The Witcher 3 And Far Cry Primal

Even with all of the leaks related to the game over the past few weeks, the gameplay trailer for Ubisoft’s upcoming game Assassin’s Creed: Origins is still a sight to behold. As rumored, the title is set in ancient Egypt, but the footage also contains some spectacular new details. Looking at the presentation, the game seems like a cross between The Witcher 3 and Far Cry Primal.

Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, the premise of the mechanics has been fairly consistent. There were numerous changes, of course, but the pattern was still fairly the same. Climb buildings, use Eagle Vision, assassinate some folks. With this new offering, the combat system has been tweaked and there’s a new animal partner in the form of a hawk, VentureBeat reports.

The game takes place in 49 BCE, which is about the same time as the start of the Egyptian empire’s decline. Cleopatra is going to make an appearance along with several historical characters that the protagonist, Bayek will be interacting with. The main character is basically the last Medjay, which is kind of like the SAS of ancient Egypt.

For the most part, changing the fighting mechanics is largely considered a refreshing change to the increasingly stale system that previous games had. For starters, it would appear that the Counter feature (the move that allows players to finish off enemies by timing their parries) is no longer present or has been considerably limited.

This means that players will have to be more active in fighting opponents by dodging and timing their attacks rather than just waiting for enemies to strike. It’s fairly reminiscent to The Witcher 3’s combat setup.

As for the new animal partner, Bayek will be relying a lot on his pet hawk in order to get information via an aerial view. The tower systems that are practically synonymous with Assassin’s Creed are going to play a much smaller role in the new game, Kotaku reports, so the avian friend is going to be a major tool for players.
