The Arsenal F.C. recently lost against Lyon in a 2-1 defeat. The Gunners were looking solid early on the game after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored first.
But Moussa Dembele came roaring in the second half and scored two for Lyon, sealing the fate of Arsenal and relinquishing the Emirates Cup. It would’ve been a different story for The Gunners if the goal of Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli wasn’t ruled out.
Be that as it may, Arsenal head coach Unai Emery is taking the loss with stride and moving on, eyeing the Joan Gamper trophy as the team’s next goal. The problem for Arsenal is that they may have lost more than the Emirates Cup, Express reported.
Arsenal star’s situation not dire
Alexandre Lacazette, deemed last year as the team’s best player, suffered an ankle injury and was last seen hobbling out the stadium with a protective boot on his left leg. This is worrying for Arsenal since the Premier League campaign will be kicking off soon.
However, Emery recently spoke about Lacazette’s situation and is convinced that the injury isn’t a cause for concern, TalkSport reported. The coach said that the forward would be assessed in the few days to determine the severity of the injury.
“He tried to continue playing but I think it was better in the pre-season to take patience. The doctor said to me he is going to check tomorrow, but the thinking is that it is not important,” Emery said. Meanwhile, Nicolas Pepe’s transfer to Arsenal is still ingoing but Granit Xhaka may have provided a hint that the deal is all but concluded.
Arsenal may have successfully landed Pepe
In an Instagram post that discussed the transfer, Xhaka was seen “liking” the said post and solidified the rumors that Arsenal will indeed be adding Pepe into its roster. The Gunners will apparently pay Lille €80million (£72m) for the talented winger/forward, beating other teams that are also intent on landing one of the most sought-after players this summer. News about Pepe’s transfer will likely arrive in the next few days.
As for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil and defender Sead Kolasinac, both players are expected to return on the grass after Emery decided to sit them out following a failed carjacking that involved both men. The two escaped the incident uninjured, with Kolasinac being captured on CCTV chasing after the perpetrators.
