‘Arrow’ season 6’s main villain may be teased in the season 5 finale showdown between Oliver and Adrian Chase. Meanwhile, showrunner Wendy Mericle revealed that the new season would explore Oliver’s challenges as Mayor and at the same time, a vigilante.
According to Fansided, the possible main villain for the upcoming season 6 of The CW’s action-crime television series based on the DC comic book character Green Arrow may be introduced in the fifth season’s finale episode, titled “Lian Yu,” scheduled to be released on May 24, 2017.
It was speculated that among the possible contenders as the series’ newest antagonist, Earth 2’s Laurel Lance a.k.a. Black Siren (Katie Cassidy) may emerge as the most obvious of them all. The upcoming episode will feature the epic battle between Oliver (Stephen Amell) and his team of allies against Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra) and his own army of villains.
Black Siren will be making her appearance on the finale as she forges as an alliance with Adrian to defeat Oliver. She is speculated to kill off the Earth-1 version of her father, Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), with consequences that would snowball straight into season 6. The heaviness of the situation would most likely prompt Oliver to seek vengeance in the next installments.
A previous report from Entertainment Weekly revealed that Katie Cassidy has been named as one of the series regulars for season 6. This seems to foreshadow her rise into supreme villainy in the same way Segarra was made into a series regular for series 5. Segarra’s Adrian a.k.a. Prometheus then turned out to be Oliver’s greatest threat in the current season.
Meanwhile, showrunner Wendy Mericle revealed during an interview with ComicBook.com that season 6 will explore Oliver’s challenges as both mayor and vigilante. Mericle said, “The mayor’s office has gotten really good at covering up all that stuff, but it’s a good question… I think we’ll be able to find story ways to skirt past that, but it highlights what’s going to be a central question for season 6, which is, how can he do both?”
She continued, “We’ve played with that in the past in different ways before, but I think that the success of what he’s done in the mayor’s office and his ability to have impact is going to raise those stakes to a different level and hopefully create some great stories.”
‘Arrow’ season 6 was renewed on The CW on January 2017.
