Apple is set to unveil a major redesign of the iPad Pro, shifting the front camera and Face ID sensors to landscape mode. The move aligns with user behavior, enhancing the viewing experience. While delays have impacted the release schedule, the upcoming iPad Air models are also expected to feature this orientation switch, as leaked by Weibo user Instant Digital.
Tech Evolution Unfolds: iPad Camera Pivot Echoes Samsung's Strategy, Apple Set to Redefine Tablet Experience
Samsung's latest Galaxy S9 Ultra tablet has a front-facing camera in landscape mode. The move clarifies that the tablet is most commonly used in landscape mode, and for good reason, as it provides a broader view of the display.
Wccftech reports that Apple is expected to change the new OLED iPad Pro models, and a new leak indicates that landscape Face ID and camera orientation will also be available on the upcoming iPad Air models.
People will upgrade both versions of the iPad Pro, including the 11- and 13-inch models. However, the company intends to upgrade the iPad Air lineup alongside the 'Pro' models. According to a Weibo leaker named Instant Digital, the Face ID and camera orientation switch on the iPad Pro will also be available on the iPad Air lineup.
It's worth noting that the company already offers the front-facing camera in landscape mode on the iPad 10. Apple took time to realize it was the better option for iPad users. Apple is considering changing the same design to other iPad models like the iPad mini-7. Previous reports indicate that the iPad mini 7 will be released later this year.
Inside Out Redesign: Apple Contemplates iPad Pro and Air Overhaul, Balancing Innovation with Existing Framework
Apple will need to change the inside of the device to change the position of the Face ID sensors and camera. This is because the remaining iPad Pro and iPad Air internals may remain unchanged. While the company intends to redesign the iPad Pro lineup significantly, it is still being determined what changes will be made to the iPad Air.
This year, the iPad Air will be available in two display sizes: 10.9 and 12.9 inches. However, the OLED iPad Pro models will see an increase in screen size, with a slightly larger panel than the current models.
The company is working on various changes, and the latest design will include slimmer bezels compared to current tablet models. It should be noted that these are only speculations at this point, as the final decision is up to Apple.
