Since the release of the iPhone 11, users are now anticipating the release of the new Apple Watch series. Many are now speculating on what kind of features the new version of the device will have.
Although it is not sure what the name of the upgraded Apple Watch will be called, many simply call it the Series 6 for now. Express reported it seems that Apple might be bringing in facial recognition software to the Apple Watch. This is because the tech giant has applied for a patent that involves all the sensors and cameras required to unlock the device using facial recognition.
If facial recognition is brought into the software for the Series 6, then it would mean that it would become independent from the iPhone as it would have the same security measure. Compared to passcode authentication, having Facial ID as a security measure would open a possibility of the Apple Watch being able to support Android. However, it is also likely that this is only a patent and the feature would not be included in the upcoming model.
In terms of design, there is speculation that the Apple Watch Series 6 would adopt the usual design, but with more screen, as seen on Series 4 and Series 5 maybe even more. The Series 5 Watch did not have any dramatic changes, only giving users the Always On Display as well as the compass, so perhaps the Series 6 would come with a big change.
When it comes to software, users can likely expect more health and fitness-related features. But perhaps what many want to see the most in the Series 6 is an improvement in battery life. Apple products are notorious for not having a good battery life and thus an improvement in this area is something to consider for the upcoming series. Along with improved battery life, many might also expect to see some third party support for the watch faces and smart straps among many.
There is no release date set for the Series 6 just yet. Looking back at previous releases, the Apple Watch Series 6 will most likely be released around the same time as the new iPhone which is in the second week of September.
