The biggest online retailers still see Black Friday as the biggest sales event of the year thanks to shoppers’ seemingly endless enthusiasm for finding great deals. Last year shoppers spent $650 billion during the Black Friday sales week and this year’s total is expected to be up by 4.5% on 2016.
Whilst historically Black Friday has involved lengthy queues and chaotic scenes at retail stores, the transition to online deals has eased the pressure on brick and mortar sales. A survey from the National Retail federation found that more people shopped via the internet for the Black Friday weekend 2016 showing the growing importance of e-commerce to retailers.
This year deals begin online on Monday November 20th and run for an entire week through to Cyber Monday on November 27th.
