Information leaks have become fairly common in the consumer tech and gaming industry, especially for very popular products coming from Apple. However, the case of Apple’s spring 2021 launch event is now even more interesting as it appears to be happening in April despite multiple leakers with reliable records almost simultaneously reported it was happening on March 23.
Did Apple finally crack the code of beating online leaks?
Over the last week, Apple fans had a reason to be excited because the company’s anticipated first product launch of the year was reportedly taking place on March 23. Apple usually sends out invites for these types of events a week before it happens. So when no official announcement happened on Tuesday, it became quite clear that Apple has nothing planned for the said date.
What made the situation even more curious was that three well-known leakers had reported the same information. While tech fans are always advised to take information leaks with a grain of salt, the March 23 detail came from Kang, L0vetodream, and Jon Prosser, who are all in the top 10 of most accurate sources, according to Apple Track. It was then understandable that many fans were also confident that something is happening on March 23.
Prosser, who promised to shave his eyebrows if his March 23 tip was wrong, is now reporting that “there was never a March event,” and the spring 2021 product launch had always been set for April. This has sparked several theories from his followers, with the most common being that Apple could be finally catching up with how the leakers are getting their information. One Twitter user even joked that Apple used an “Among Us”-liked tactic to find the “impostor.” Others also expressed concern for the leakers’ inside sources.
What Apple products could be announced in April
While an Apple spring event is still anticipated to happen as the company reportedly has some new products to ship for the first half of the year. More recently, rumors about the refreshed iPad Pro line suggested that it could be released in April at the earliest, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reporting that the upcoming tablets will sport the A14X with a performance “on par” with the ARM-based M1 chip.
Apple has also been anticipated to launch the AirTags or the Tile-like trackers with an ultra-wideband chip. The launch of the AirPods 3 might still be tentative for April or in the first half of 2021 after Ming-Chi Kuo reported that its mass production is not expected until the third quarter of 2021.
