Apple Music subscribers will have more things to do with the app that should come in handy for upcoming holiday celebrations. Apple announced this week that it is launching the Apple Music Sing functionality soon.
The Apple Music app already supports a lyrics view that lets subscribers sing along to their favorite songs. But the upcoming Sing feature will improve upon that experience by adding adjustable vocals.
In a product brief for the new feature, Apple says the Sing functionality will introduce a new built-in slider when switching to the lyrics view. TechCrunch reported that this feature uses an on-device machine learning algorithm instead of actually adding new tracks without vocals, which is quite common on YouTube.
Apple Music’s built-in slider in the lyrics view will allow users to adjust the vocal volume of a song they are playing. So subscribers can choose to minimize the original vocals for a solo karaoke experience or still hear some of it to guide them as they sing. It is also possible to mix it up as if they are dueting with their favorite artists.
“We already know our users all over the world love to follow along to their favorite songs,” Oliver Schusser, Apple VP of Apple Music and Beats, said. “So we wanted to evolve this offering even further to enable even more engagement around music through singing.”
The tech giant confirmed that the Apple Music Sing feature would be supported on “compatible” iPhones and iPads. It will also launch on the Apple Music app for the new Apple TV 4K, which should offer a fun activity for friends and families gathering this holiday.
Apple is also applying some changes to the Apple Music lyrics view as part of the Sing feature. The announcement said users will find “animated lyrics that dance to the rhythm of the vocals.” Once the Sing feature is live, Apple Music will also add 50 playlists with songs that are “fully optimized” for the new experience.
As with previously added features, there was no mention of any additional cost to experience the Sing feature. So Apple Music subscribers do not have to pay more to use the app for karaoke sessions.
Apple did not mention a specific release date for the new feature. But the company said Apple Music subscribers worldwide would be able to experience Sing later this month.
