As a company that is notorious for being incredibly protective of its trade secrets, Apple is naturally wary of any information about its products going public before it should. One example of how protective Apple is of its secrets is the reported termination of one engineer when his daughter recorded a video of an iPhone X and then uploaded it to the internet.
There are several sides to this particular story that should be explained before anyone jumps to conclusions. One is how Apple seems to have absolutely no patience when it comes to information on its products leaking, Record reports. This is not exactly news since most in the tech industry should already be aware of how secretive the company can be.
On the other hand, this detail should have been known to the father of Brooke Amelia Peterson, who apparently showed the girl a developer model of the iPhone X. It would have been fine if the arrangement was kept private, but Peterson decided to shoot a video of the device while explaining its features and then uploading it to YouTube.
In another video, Peterson revealed how her stunt cost her father his job. While she did lament how her father did not deserve to lose his job, she also admitted that it was due to them breaking the rules.
“On Tuesday, I woke up and my iPhone X video was going viral,” Peterson said. “I was on the trending page ... My dad was a privileged engineer who worked on the iPhone X and he had one. After Apple released their keynote, after plenty of Youtubers posted YouTube videos, hands-on iPhone X videos, I made a YouTube video about the iPhone X.
“I have no idea how my video got so much attention considering how many other iPhone X videos there are out there from other YouTubers… At the end of the day, when you work for Apple, it doesn’t matter how good of a person you are, if you break a rule they just have no tolerance.”
