“Ant-Man and The Wasp” is playing in China and it seems that the latest movie from the MCU is seeing massive numbers in the Asian giant’s market. While this is worth celebrating, the fantastic reception is considered by some as ironic, considering the country’s reputation of having misogynistic tendencies. Meanwhile, a concept art for the movie surfaced recently, which showed how Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) daughter might have been shrunk much like her father.
The movie’s run in China has already helped “Ant-Man and The Wasp” surpass the $519 million worldwide sales of movie tickets by the first movie, Forbes reports. It is even expected to surpass some of the MCU’s biggest solo titles at its current pace. However, the movie’s success in China is marred by opinions with regards to the irony of such a positive reception.
The publication pointed out that the West often regards China’s views about women to be a bit hostile. However, considering that “Ant-Man and The Wasp” is the first superhero movie in the MCU to truly share the main character spotlight, its success in China seems to be proving those opinions wrong. Perhaps Evangeline Lilly was just that watchable.
Speaking of women in “Ant-Man and The Wasp,” Scott Lang’s daughter, Cassie Lang (Abby Ryder Fortson) was apparently planned to have been shrunk in the movie. At least, this is what a recent tweet by Marvel Studios' senior concept illustrator, Jackson Sze, hints at.
Another exploration of Father-Daughter activities Scott and Cassie can do with Antman technology. Not in the final film but I got to eat ice cream for “research” so all in all a good day. #AntmanandTheWasp pic.twitter.com/G9TJObT3cY

The idea is certainly a novel one and would have been an interesting story as a side-narrative. The concept arts released so far take Scott and Cassie through various scenarios as tiny people, from eating ice cream to riding insects.
It’s a pity that the scenes never made it to the movie since they seem to be quite fun. Then again, perhaps future films will see Cassie become Stature, who will possess some neat powers.
