‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ released its newest trailer introducing Neil Patrick Harris as the terrifying villain Count Olaf. The upcoming series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on January 2017.
According to Business Insider, the upcoming Netflix series based on Lemony Snicket’s (Daniel Handler) best-selling book series of the same name dropped its newest trailer featuring Neil Patrick Harris as the villainous Count Olaf. The trailer also featured the Baudelaire siblings’ first ever meeting with the series’ main antagonist.
Count Olaf is said to be a distant relative of the Baudelaires and was their adoptive father. He is fixated with the family’s inheritance and has followed them obsessively. He gained notoriety for numerous counts of arson, with Violet and Klaus believing that he was the one who set their home on fire leading to the deaths of their parents Bertrand or Beatrice.
Violet, Klaus, and Sunny were placed under the protective custody of their murderous relative, who orchestrates elaborate disasters whenever the children try to get away from him. Along the way, the children discover a secret society called VFD with ties to Olaf and their parents. In the original full-feature film adaptation released in 2004, Olaf was portrayed by actor and comedian Jim Carrey.
Netflix’s official synopsis for the series posted on Screen Crush reads, “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans – Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death.”
The series is developed by Paramount TV and Handler will debut its eight episodes on January 13, 2017 on Netflix. It is also executive produced by Emmy Award-winner Barry Sonnenfeld and Handler. It stars Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf, Joan Cusack as Justice Strauss, Malina Weissman as Violet Baudelaire, and Louis Hynes as Klaus Baudelaire.
‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ is an upcoming drama television series developed by Mark Hudis for Netflix. Season 1 will consist of eight episodes and is set to be released next year.
