Austin, Texas, Sept. 21, 2017 -- North Texas nonprofits celebrate a record-breaking $39.4 million raised in the 18-hour North Texas Giving Day, hosted by Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) and powered by Kimbia, a leading provider of online fundraising solutions, events and high-volume giving day events.

The ninth annual North Texas Giving Day took place on Sept. 14 and raised $2 million more than last year’s event with a 15% increase in the number of participating nonprofits. This marks the sixth year in a row that North Texas Giving Day shattered the record for the most money ever raised in the United States during a single-day online giving event.
“The North Texas community has once again blown us away with their generosity, said Susan Swan Smith, Chief Giving Day Officer at Communities Foundation of Texas and North Texas Giving Day Team Lead. “Raising funds for local philanthropy is more important than ever, and we are deeply grateful for the donors, nonprofits, volunteers and partners, like Kimbia, who make this event possible year after year.”
This event has had a huge impact on the people of Dallas, Fort Worth and the surrounding areas, as more nonprofits have received funding each year. By the numbers, this event has raised over $195 million in the last 9 years. When CFT launched the event in 2009, $4 million was raised from approximately 6,500 gifts. This year, 137,638 gifts were received, over 21 times the number of gifts received in 2009. New for this year, North Texas Giving Day offered scheduled giving. Over $6 million in gifts were scheduled by donors in the week before the event.
“We couldn’t be more proud to partner with Communities Foundation of Texas on this incredible event. The dedication of the staff, the nonprofits involved and the generosity of the North Texas area continues to amaze us and humble us, and we are honored to serve this extraordinary giving event,” said Kimbia CEO Mark Perkins.
North Texas Giving Day is one of the many ways Communities Foundation of Texas serves as a hub for philanthropy in North Texas. As the largest community foundation in Texas and one of the largest in the nation, CFT works to strengthen the community through a variety of charitable funds and strategic grantmaking initiatives. The foundation professionally manages nearly 1,000 charitable funds for families, companies, foundations and nonprofits and has awarded more than $1.7 billion in grants since its founding in 1953.
