Netflix's teen drama "13 Reasons Why" has been officially picked up for a second season, and is expected to be released in 2018.
The announcement has been posted on Twitter on Sunday, along with a video of a compilation of places significant in Hannah Baker’s story. The video came with a caption that read, “Their story isn't over. Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming.”
Prior to the announcement, series creator Brian Yorkey told the Los Angeles Times that “Hannah’s story isn’t over.” He indicated that there will be a couple of topics that will be addressed in Season 2.
“She has parents who still don’t have the complete story. “There’s a rapist who hasn't been brought to justice, and there’s a living survivor of that rapist who is just beginning her journey of recovery. Part of the problem with our culture is that we say, ‘Oh, the story’s done. Rapes are treated, at best, as a multi-episode arc within a season, when anyone who’s experienced rape knows it’s a lifelong story,” Yorkey added. “If we left these 13 episodes out in the world with [the rapist] not being brought to justice … it’d be incredibly dissatisfying to me,” he added.
It has also been assured that Baker (Katherine Langford), will return for Season 2, which will run for 13 episodes, Rolling Stone reported. It is unclear whether Selena Gomez, who came in as an executive producer in the series, will join the show for Season 2.
