NBC announced on Tuesday that the official premiere date of “The Blacklist” season 6 has been changed. It is, generally, a good news as it pushes the first segment of the two-part season opener to an earlier schedule.
It was initially announced that “The Blacklist” season 6 will premiere with a two-part episode on Friday, Jan. 4 on its all-new regular timeslot. However, some days later, NBC confirmed the series will actually begin a day earlier than that.
The first half of the “The Blacklist” season 6 premiere event will air on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 10 p.m. ET. This segment will have an encore the following day at 9 p.m. ET along with the rest of the episode. In the following weeks, the series will follow its new regular schedule — every Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
This immediately sounds like a good plan since it cuts the waiting time by almost an entire day for very eager fans. But what does this sudden change say about the status of the series in “The Blacklist” season 6?
Note that it is already a good news that the James Spader- and Megan Boone-led series was not canceled. Added to that, NBC did not downgrade “The Blacklist” season 6 by ordering another 22-episode series run.
However, there are speculations that moving “The Blacklist” season 6 premiere to Jan. 3 shows NBC realizes the series needs a boost. In this case, the network might be thinking that placing it right after the opening of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “The Titan Games” could help attract more viewers into following the crime thriller throughout the season.
“The Blacklist” season 6 picks up from one of the most shocking TV plot twists — Red (James Spader) is an imposter leading Liz (Megan Boone) to the quest of finding where her real father had been all this time. The more tricky part is that Liz must investigate without showing her cards to Red.
However, “The Blacklist” season 6 official synopsis hints the upcoming episodes will eventually provide a conclusive ending. “All throughout, Liz and Red engage in an uneasy cat-and-mouse game in which lines will be crossed and the truth will be revealed,” the season’s official summary reads.
