The title for “Star Wars: Episode 9” was finally revealed to be “The Rise of Skywalker” and based on the leaks and theories circulating online, Emperor Palpatine will return in this last Skywalker saga. His return is being anticipated as the theories are very convincing enough and fans also point to clues that this guess is correct.

Moreover, the trailer of “Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker” also hinted that Palpatine would show up. In the preview, the narration stated “No one is ever really gone,” and then the evil laugh of the Emperor is heard. It appears that the biggest threat has come with the return of a villain and Kylo Ren will have to face him head-on.

It was said that once “Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker” is released, it will be the last story of the Skywalkers. Their saga will be officially closed-off, and new plots will take over. Disney will release the new generation of “Star Wars” movies as the franchise enters the third decade of the 21st century.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, after the “Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker” ends later this year, Star Wars will still be around, but they will introduce new trilogy flicks and the schedules for their release were also posted. As per the information provided by Disney, the next three films will be released on Dec. 16, 2022, Dec. 20, 2024, and Dec. 18, 2026.

While the dates were announced, the titles for the next “Star Wars” movies are not yet available. The most exciting part of this upcoming trilogy is that the "Game of Thrones" showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, have been assigned to take charge.

Then again, fans should take note that even if the three dates were disclosed, there is a possibility that other “Star Wars” movies and series could arrive in between the mentioned schedules. Meanwhile, “Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker” is coming to theaters this December. Check out the preview below:
