Michael Schumacher 2018: Schumi's Son Looks Ready for F1 While Lewis Hamilton Gets Closer to Beating Legend's Record

Lewis Hamilton has been making waves as his Formula One career looks to be matching legendary German driver Michael Schumacher's own records.

In a breakdown by Foxsports, Lewis Hamilton is shown to be edging closer to Michael Schumacher's five-year streak performance. The younger driver has already surpassed Schumacher in number of poles and podiums and is already a victory away from matching the former Ferrari driver's win rate.

While Hamilton may be catching up to Michael Schumacher's numbers, the British driver will unfortunately be unable to beat Schumacher's amazing feat of five consecutive driver titles as Nico Rosberg beat him for the 2016 title. While Hamilton is an amazing contender for most of Michael Schumacher's records, it looks like a new driver is up to the challenge of making Formula One history.

Michael Schumacher's son, Mick Schumacher, may be the next generation's contender for the beloved role of Formula One icon. Before Mick Schumacher entered the mid-season track at Spa, Michael Schumacher's son was in eighth place, with Prema Theodore Racing teammate Marcus Armstrong taking the lead.

But Mick Schumacher's first victory at Spa has now become a turning point in the Formula Three driver's career, much like how Michael Schumacher's winning streak initially started in the same track. Mick Schumacher is currently ranked first, a good 49 points away from Motopark driver Dan Ticktum, and 69 points away from teammate Armstrong with only three races left for the season. If Mick Schumacher closes the F3 Championship season with the title, fans can expect Michael Schumacher's son to follow in his footsteps in Formula One.

But Mick Schumacher's recent uptick in performance is not without its controversies. Recently, Dan Ticktum made a controversial post on social media that seemed to insinuate that Mick Schumacher was being favored during the competition through underhanded means.

Dan Ticktum received fan backlash from the now deleted Instagram post. While Ticktum eventually clarified his statements as not accusing Michael Schumacher's son of doing anything illegal, he still emphasized that he was fighting a losing battle because his last name was not Schumacher.

With all the excitement around Lewis Hamilton and Mick Schumacher, fans of Michael Schumacher's legacy can hopefully look forward to the young drivers setting new records for the sport very soon.
