Big changes are in order for Velan Studios’ “Knockout City” as the game enters its second year of existence. Aside from moving the game to a free-to-play model, Velan Studios is going to take over the full publishing responsibilities for the dodgeball-inspired title.
“Knockout City” season 5, titled Greatest Hits, will go live on Tuesday, March 1. It is slated to bring back some of the fan-favorite content released throughout the first year of the game. But Velan Studios’ latest update is more focused on what awaits players beyond this season.
In a blog post earlier this week, Velan Studios announced that it is taking over the publishing responsibilities for “Knockout City” starting Season 6, which will begin sometime in May. “We have exciting plans for Knockout City, and bringing publishing in-house will allow us to fully realize our vision for the long-term future of this game,” the developer said.
Another major change coming to “Knockout City” in the spring is its transition to a free-to-play model. The blog post did not detail yet what this means for the future content of the game, but Velan Studios thanked the first players who paid a full price for the game.
To show their appreciation, the developer is giving away a Season 6 Loyalty Bundle to players who have purchased or will buy before the next season begins. The bundle includes XP bonuses, legendary cosmetics, and 2,000 worth of Holoblux. The last item is the “Knockout City” in-game currency that players can use to purchase items from the Brawl Store to customize their characters and squads. Holoblux is sold in bundles worth $9.99 for 1,100 Holoblux, $24.99 for 3,000 Holoblux, and $49.99 for 6,000 Holoblux.
While Season 5 is essentially an anniversary season for “Knockout City,” Velan Studios told players that most of its efforts are now focused on Season 6. That means fans should not expect a new map and new ball before May. The developer also confirmed there will be no Brawl Pass in conjunction with Season 5. “However, this shift in content is only temporary, and we’ll have a new Brawl Pass, more cosmetics, and plenty of new features coming in Season 6, with more new maps and balls coming in future seasons,” Velan Studios added.
