Global Geo-political Series: Trump might meet Kim Jong-un under right circumstances

The US President Donald Trump, in an interview with the Bloomberg, said that he would meet the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and he would be honored to do so when the circumstances are right. He said in an Oval Office interview, “If it would be appropriate for me to meet with him, I would absolutely, I would be honored to do it……….If it’s under the, again, under the right circumstances. But I would do that.” He added that most politicians would never say that looking to distinguish himself against a regular politician and stressed that he would meet the North Korean leader when circumstances are right. He also pointed at the end that this was breaking news, which in fact, it was.

The comments came amid heightened tensions in the Korean peninsula where President Trump has sent an aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and submarines and conducting joint drills with the rival South Korea. The United States has also been pressing China to do more to bring North Korea to the negotiating table and to help the United States by making North Korea abandon provocations through testing of ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons. China is North Korea’s main trading partners. So far, no progress has been made as North Korea kept up the war rhetoric against the United States.
