FxWirePro: Political chaos lingers in France as Macron’s rating drops to lowest ever

After then-candidate Emmanuel Macron claimed victory in 2017’s Presidential race beating the populist/nationalist candidate Marine La Pen comfortably with 32.2 percent margin, pro-European Union leaders cheered in joy with European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker describing the event as an end to the rise of populism/nationalism across Europe. However, after little more than two years, the cheer seems to be all but gone.

Nationalist parties have taken control of Italy and Sweden is just steps away from a nationalist coalition. But more importantly, President Juncker’s ‘poster-boy’, who played the EU theme song during his inauguration instead of French national song is all in tatters. Gripped with an image of an authoritarian, gripped with ‘personal guard’ scandal and deteriorating lifestyle across France, growing immigration issues, President Macron is seeing his rating plunge into record lows.

According to the latest IFOP poll, 70 percent of the French disapproving President Macron’s Presidency against 29 percent of those who approve it. In addition to that, 35 percent strongly disapproves of his Presidency. The rating has plunged by 10 points.

This shows that the political chaos that largely began back in 2007 is not only continuing but aggravating. The people of France have not been happy with the works of their picks over the last three Presidency or roughly 13 years. Every President since 2007; Nicolas Sarkozy, Francois Hollande, and Emmanuel Macron, all have seen rating plunge sharply during Presidency. Jacques Chirac was the last popular President two have elected twice in office, more than a decade ago.
