Adidas has been overwhelmed by the high demand for Lionel Messi and Argentina football players’ jerseys. It was reported that the superstar footballer’s jersey is already sold around the world after Argentina’s big win at the recently concluded World Cup in Qatar.
Adidas is now struggling to supply the jerseys as fans around the world try to get their hands on them to celebrate with the Argentia team for their victory. Lionel Messi’s No. 10 jerseys were especially “wanted” by fans and Adidas admitted that there is now a global shortage of stock because of the unbelievable demand.
According to Reuters, before the World Cup finals took place on Sunday, the Adidas sportswear and sneaker brand was already deluded with high demands for Argentine kits. Many companies have also taken advantage of the situation and made knockoffs to sell on the streets and local markets. This has reportedly prompted the German company to increase its production ahead of the final game where massive celebrations are expected to cap off the World Cup.
“Due to extraordinary demand for the Adidas Argentina World Cup jerseys across the globe, we have very low stock in some countries,” Adidas’ spokesman told Reuters. “We are working to get more jerseys to fans so they can celebrate an incredible journey for the national team.”
It was noted that among the teams that Adidas sponsored in the World Cup, only Argentina managed to advance to the finals in Qatar. But even if this is the case, the sportswear maker was astounded by the demand which was said to even be higher to the World Cup event in 2018 that took place in Russia.
In any case, as Messi’s jerseys sells out globally after Argentina’s win, Adidas said that it is not sure when it can replenish the stocks at its stores around the world. The company went on to say that it is impossible for them to increase production overnight.
Adidas admitted that although it already knows that the products will do very well in the market due to the World Cup, it was very surprised they have done so well which has exceeded their expectations. Thus, the stocks have run out and they are not able to refill the shelves at once.
