Along with the reveal of the newest console by Nintendo called the “Split,” which was formerly known as the “NX,” is a variety of video games that appeared to be playable with the new portable gaming console. Among these is a new “Super Mario” game that appears to be a 3D platformer much like “Super Mario Galaxy.” This marks the first game of the legendary Nintendo mascot to be released in years that wasn’t about racing on weird tracks.
The game doesn’t have a title yet, Forbes reports, but based on what was shown in the launch trailer for the “Split,” it’s definitely a platformer. A lot of details can also be derived from the small snippets of scenes that were shown in the video such as a section which appeared to be set in a desert and another that looks like a town from a western movie.
The trailer also showcased the capability of the “Split” to allow players to take the game from their homes to the streets or practically anywhere, it would seem. When it transitioned from the Super Mario game to other titles, it was clear that it can be played with up to four players as well. As to whether or not an internet connection is required for this to happen or if the four-way player split applies to the Super Mario game is yet to be seen.
For those who watched the video, it would also appear that a new Mario Kart game is on the way, IGN notes. Then again, it could just as easily be an old Kart game that was redesigned to suit the mobility of the “Switch” since no concrete details have been released about that yet.
If this feels like too little information, Nintendo did promise to release more details before the console is released. The “Split” is scheduled for release on March 2017, so that’s a date worth keeping in mind.
