The iPhone line has been sporting some of the best smartphone cameras in their history, but the “iPhone 7 Plus” might just have the best one yet. This is largely thanks to its dual camera system, which results in better photo effects.
Since Apple introduced the very first iPhone, the line’s cameras have only seen mild updates that amounted to more pixels, more efficiency, and more features, CNET reports. However, the inclusion of the dual-camera system for the “iPhone 7 Plus” is a huge jump that adds much-needed freshness to the device.
This is incredibly important for Apple since it has been losing the interest of consumers thanks to the perception that its well of innovations seems to be drying up. Including two cameras to provide better photographic experiences can go some way towards tipping the decisions of hesitant buyers to the company’s favor.
As for the camera system itself, both units take 12MP shots, working in conjunction to produce effects like better background defocus. One has a 28mm f1.8 lens and the other has a 56mm f2.8, which Apple refers to as the “telephoto” lens. The latter allows for great wide-angle shots without resulting in the subject or subjects losing a few inches in height.
The cameras are not the only things going for the “iPhone 7 Plus,” however, as the lineup also got souped-up in other areas. There’s the A10 processor, which provides more battery efficiency thanks to the division of labor between the four cores, Apple Insider notes. It’s also got an improved HD retina display, which is to be expected from Apple.
This isn’t to say that all of the new iPhones’ offerings are good, nor is it fair to say that they are bad. It will take some time before reliable feedback starts coming in, most likely once the phones start making their way to consumers' hands. Until then, unknown factors like the home button, the removal of the headphone jack, and even the water resistant nature of the devices will remain that for most people.
