YouTube seems to be targeting cryptocurrency videos that have links in their descriptions

YouTube / Facebook

It was reported earlier that YouTube has banned cryptocurrency-related videos for a couple of content creators. However, it now appears that the ban is more widespread than previously thought as more YouTubers came forward complaining of the deletion of some of the videos from the platform.

A couple of days ago, EconoTimes reported that YouTube seems to be banning some cryptocurrency-related videos. At that time, YouTubers Chris Dunn and Node Investor were taken by surprise and at a loss as to why their videos were taken off the platform.

But recent reports show that more YouTubers are coming forward to complain of the same thing. One channel that was also affected was Crypto Beadles, who posted his complaint on Twitter, Cointelegraph reported.

“Hey peeps! @YouTube @YTCreators has shut us down for a while,” Crypto Beadles tweeted. “Guess free content and never taking a penny for any content is bad? We’ll post on my Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram going forward all accounts are under Robert Beadles there. God Bless #censorship #youtube #bitcoin."

YouTuber Ivan on Tech also revealed that the cryptocurrency ban has already reached his channel. According to CCN, Ivan on Tech has around 211k followers and was affected by the ban on Christmas Eve

“This is an attack not only on crypto but on the entire notion of free speech,” Ivan on Tech told Cointelegraph. “Centralized platforms have become way too big and powerful for their own good and their deplatforming is the reason decentralized platforms will conquer.”

But what is perplexing to affected YouTubers is the lack of communication from the video-sharing platform. At the moment, YouTube has not yet released any statement explaining why it banned some crypto-related content while sparing others.

This led some to make a few speculations of their own. For instance, Omar Bham noted that YouTube seems to be deleting those that have links to external websites or exchanges in the video descriptions.

“It seems that a reason why YouTube would have to go after crypto channels is any links to external websites/exchanges in video descriptions,” Bham tweeted.

To verify this claim, Cointelegram got in touch with another YouTuber Rachel Siegel of the channel Crypto Finally who confirmed that her channel was not affected. She also confirmed that there are no links in her videos.
