Big investors, sometimes known as whales, have shown significant interest in altcoins over the past one to two weeks, with XRP and Solana rising as primary targets for accumulation. Mid-August whale addresses with between 1 million and 10 million XRP added about 380 to 460 million XRP to their overall holdings. A big sign of a long-term holding attitude was a large withdrawal of 231 million XRP from Binance—the greatest whale withdrawal from the exchange in six months—suggesting a shift toward self-custody.
Although whale accumulation was clear, there were also significant two-way movements for XRP. Though huge withdrawals reduced daily whale inflows to exchanges, they also shot up—some 1.451 billion XRP were put on Binance over 30 days. This event happened as U.S. spot XRP ETFs drew $28.14 million on August 26th and a total of about $106 million over seven days, so bringing cumulative inflows to between $1.57 and 1.59 billion.
Solana, too, has seen major whale buying with an estimated $ 41.5 million in SOL recently acquired. This shows strong accumulation as SOL traded in the $105–$110 range, including an $8 million buy by a wallet that had been inactive for eight months and another $33.5 million bought by two whales the day before. Bitcoin whale accumulation contrasts with this altcoin whale activity, especially in XRP and Solana, therefore highlighting a particular capital rotation into these digital assets.
