Fairphone, a Dutch electronics company, announced last week that the first deliveries of its latest offering Fairphone 2 will start in December. Due to some production delay, Steve Harris, Director of Operations, says that the final assembly of last modules will start on 23 November, “with the first deliveries to customers taking place at the beginning of December.”
“We are optimistic that the first 15,000 phones predicted for delivery in November will still arrive in December, despite being the busiest month for couriers. All other pre-orders until we start shipping in December will be delivered in January”, Harris added.
He also said that they are about to receive all the necessary certifications to sell the product within the EU. The phones will be delivered on a first-come, first-served basis. However, it cannot be guaranteed that all phones ordered during the crowdfunding phase (before 1 October) will be delivered by Christmas, he added.
“At the end of November, I will be able to tell you more about exactly how many phones are being produced each week, and more detailed information about the expected delivery dates in December”, Harris added.
Priced at €529.38, Fairphone 2 is one-of-a-kind modular phone with some interesting features:
- Dual SIM
- 5-inch, Full HD LCD screen with 1080x1920 resolution (446 ppi)
- Android 5.1, Lollipop
- 4G LTE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- 2 GB RAM, 32 GB Flash Storage

- 8 MP rear camera, 2 MP front camera
- Maxell Lithium-Ion 2420 mAh battery

IBTimes UK explains that Fairphone 2 is not only the world’s first modular smartphone, but also the first to be made from “responsibly sourced materials, and the first that claims to offer a 5-year lifespan."
