“Westworld” season 3 is confirmed, so fans can look forward to newer episodes in the not-so-distant future. HBO made the announcement about the series’ renewal back in May and this was while season 2 was still airing.
Commenting on HBO’s decision to have “Westworld” season 3, the president of HBO Programming, Casey Bloys, told Variety, “From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”
Filming
While “Westworld” season 3 is surely coming, there is no schedule for its filming yet. It has been a little over two months since the second chapter ended so the cast might still be taking a break. The writers could also be adding more storylines and polishing the plot as well.
Ed Harris (The Man in Black) also revealed that the production is not happening anytime soon. In an interview with The Huffington Post, he said, “We’re not supposed to start shooting Season 3 until next June.”
Moreover, showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan once said that they are not in a rush to do “Westworld” season 3. They want everything to be perfect before they get back to filming, so it may take a while.
Plot
“Westworld” season 3 will present an interesting twist as the hosts have finally escaped from the park. However, some did not make it out alive such as Maeve (Thandie Newton). Joy and Nolan further teased fans by disclosing that the fortunate hosts will discover a new world, but what they will find out there is a big surprise.
“It’s been a long build-up to get outside the park. And we’re incredibly excited about what that looks like and sounds like and what exactly our hosts discover out there,” Nolan told Entertainment Weekly.
He added that they do not want to repeat themselves so they are really gearing up for a whole new take on the upcoming “Westworld” season 3. However, they will not ditch the amusement parks entirely since there are still several parks to explore besides the three that were already shown in the previous seasons, namely Westworld, Shogun World and The Raj.
When asked if there will be a time jump in “Westworld” season 3, Lisa Joy told The Hollywood Reporter, “I think that storyline is something we'll get to eventually. But in season three, the main story will not be leaping that far forward.”
Cast
Some cast members are already confirmed for “Westworld” season 3 like Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores Abernathy) and Thandie Newton (Maeve Millay). Others, including Ed Harris (Man in Black), Tessa Thompson (Charlotte Hale), Jimmi Simpson (William), James Marsden (Teddy Flood) and Jeffrey (Wright Bernard Lowe), are also highly likely to return.
Release Date
“Westworld” season 3 has no release date yet and Lisa Joy said that they are clueless too. However, as predicted based on previous air dates, there is a possibility that it will arrive in late 2019 or early 2020.
