Vladimir Putin, president of Russia finally commented on the recently concluded investigation carried out by Robert Mueller. The special counsel started an investigation after alleging that Russia meddled in the US 2016 election that saw Donald Trump winning against Hillary Clinton.
According to The Daily Mail, Vladimir Putin mocked the outcome of the Mueller report and called it a failure. "It was clear for us from the start that it would end like this," Putin said.
This was the Russian president’s first comment since Robert Mueller submitted his findings to the attorney general in March. Vladimir Putin added that the controversial Mueller report and suspicions of conspiracy only indicated that the Democrats was not able to accept the result of the presidential election four years ago.
"We have been saying from the start that this notorious commission led by Mr. Mueller won’t find anything, because no one knows better than us: Russia has not meddled in any U.S. election," the Russian president said stated.
Vladimir Putin’s comments came after the US Attorney General William Barr wrote in a summary that the Mueller report did not find evidence that Donald Trump conspired with Russia. Likewise, Barr stated that special counsel Mueller discovered that neither Donald Trump nor his aides conspired with Russia for the win in the elections, The Guardian reported.
William Barr’s letter to the Congress also stated that Mueller was not able to draw a conclusion, in any way, if the POTUS or anyone in the White House obstructed justice throughout the investigation.
While there is no evidence on the conspiracy, the Mueller report uncovered several operations meant to meddle with the votes and charged at least 25 Russians for hacking the email accounts of the Democrats on top of the spreading of false information online. Vladimir Putin ignored this part of the findings.
Finally, Vladimir Putin also called the allegations as "sheer nonsense” and said, “Look what is going on now. Those groups which are attacking the legitimately elected president, what are they doing?”
He added, “They disagree with the choice of the American people and seek to reduce the results to zero. This is a crisis of a political system which we have never seen in US history.”
