There’s a new addition to the cast of “American Crime Story,” and it’s a familiar face.
On Instagram, series showrunner and creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that “New Girl” star Max Greenfield will join the cast in a yet undefined role in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.” The tweet came in with a photo of a mustached Greenfield in a purple shirt, exposing his chest. Greenfield is shown posing beside a bespectacled Darren Criss, who has been tapped earlier to portray Andrew Cunanan, the serial killer who murdered the late designer Gianni Versace.
Greenfield’s casting in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” will be his second collaboration with Murphy. Greenfield first showed up in Murphy’s small-screen universe as Gabriel, a drug addict who got raped while staying at the Cortez by the Addiction Demon in the Lady Gaga-starred “Hotel” season, TVLine said. Although there are no details surrounding Greenfield’s role in the series, it is most likely that he will help flesh out the ten-episode season, which will be based on the book, “Vulgar Favors,” which is written by “Vanity Fair” writer Maureen Orth. Gianni was found murdered on the steps of his Miami mansion in July 1997.
Penelope Cruz, Edgar Ramirez, and Ricky Martin will also take part in the third installment of “American Crime Story,” E! Online said. Ramirez will play Gianna, Cruz will be playing Gianni’s sister, fashion designer Donatella Versace, and Martin will play Gianni's longtime partner, Antonio D'Amico.
