USD review

The dollar got off to a fast start to the week but to sustain its gains it would need to successfully weather key U.S. reports this week on the consumer. 

Forecasts call for retail sales to end a three-month skid with a solid 1 percent gain in March. Markets are also eager to get a look at April data after the economy showed signs of faltering in the first quarter. April numbers are due this week for the Empire State index on Wednesday and the Philly Fed index on Thursday.
