After being inaugurated as the President of the United States, the Republican candidate Donald Trump signed an executive order within a week in the Oval office that called the hiring freeze at all Federal agencies except for Military, security and other essential services. Foreign ambassadors were called to put down their resignations, which is a usual practice but it is also usual for the ambassadors to stay through the process of transitions and wait until the new replacement comes. But that has also not been the case this time around. Many posts in the federal government remain vacant till this date. So, what is the plan ahead?
Speaking to the Fox and Friends news anchors, President Trump cleared the air that he plans to not fill many of the vacant posts or hire more. According to him, there are lots of people already working for the government and he plans to make the government work efficiently by reducing numbers of unnecessary jobs, just like he plans to do away with regulations. It is now clear that President Trump wants to create more jobs but not government ones. He plans tax reforms, lowering taxes, and streamlining regulations and he is betting on that these initiatives would create ample private sector jobs.
So, the upcoming jobs reports, which will be released as early as next week, could see the headline numbers pushed down by the lesser number of appointees in the federal government. While President Trump’s proposals are resonating well with his supporters, it is a nightmare for federal workers.
