US Election Series: Trump: Clinton’s foreign policies would start world war III - does this claim have any base?

Speaking to Reuters news agency at Trump National Doral golf resort in Miami, Florida, the Republican candidate Donald Trump said that foreign policies of his presidential rival Hillary Clinton in Syria would trigger the world war III. So we examine, exactly how valid is that claim.

In the third Presidential debate, when asked by moderator Chris Wallace, Hillary Clinton said that she supports a no-fly zone in Syria as she believes that such an action would save lives. The moderator picked up on that and asked if Mrs. Clinton becomes President and gets her no-fly zone and Russia violates that, does President Clinton shoot that plane down. Hillary Clinton tried to explain her stance on that but it is quite clear that her stressing over a no-fly zone in Syria could bring the United States in direct conflict with the Russians. It has been quite clear that Russia won’t let the Assad regime fall and the United States is unlikely to succeed in this case, the way it was successful in Bringing down regimes in Iraq and Libya.

Mrs. Clinton has accused her rival Donald Trump of being a puppet of Russia but it can’t be denied that her policies in Syria could lead to greater conflict. In this particular case, Trump’s talks are neither political nor puppet. In a last month’s congressional hearing, chairman of the Joint Chiefs Marine General, Joseph Dunford told lawmakers that a no-fly zone in Syria could spell war with Russia. "Right now, senator, for us to control all of the airspace in Syria it would require us to go to war, against Syria and Russia".

So, while we believe that the claims of WWIII could be exaggerated but her policies in Syria can undoubtedly bring world’s two most powerful nuclear-armed countries closer to direct war.
