U.S. Presidential Election Series: Cruz plays VP card to stop Trump

Yesterday, Republican second runner, Ted Cruz declared that he has major announcement later in the day, some in Donald Trump camp thought, he finally may have come to his senses and will dump his presidential bid. But instead he played Vice-President card in a bid to prevent Trump to getting that magic figure of 1237, needed to secure outright nomination. After Tuesday’s primaries, Trump is now closer than ever to secure his bid.

He is sitting well ahead with 987 delegates, compared to 562 for Ted Cruz and 153 for John Kasich. Trump now needs 250 delegates to secure his bid among remaining 583 delegates.

To prevent him from getting to it, Ted Cruz last night announced Carly Fiorina, a previous runner in the race, who withdrew her bid after finishing 7th in both Iowa and New Hampshire.

Cruz tried to solidify his position by showing America that his campaign still has steam left, with Fiorina pick. With Fiorina, he expects to persuade women voters in rest of the campaign. Moreover Carly Fiorina won Republican primary in California in 2010, which could give Cruz an edge over Trump in a state that has winner takes all policy with 172 delegates to offer.

Moreover, if you can remember, Carly Fiorina was the only person to ever get Trump down to stammering in a live debate, after he commented on her looks. May be Cruz is looking for some of that strength and ferocity, which his campaign seems to have lacked for long.

But even then, All of Cruz’s attempts to choose VP early in the race, joining pact with Kasich may have come too late. If Trump, wins Indiana on May 3rd, Cruz will have no magazines left to fire at Trump.
