US PS4 Players Can Now Earn PSN Credits Via Trophies

Trophies are basically the Sony PlayStation equivalent of Achievements and they have always served as a means of bragging to others about how skilled or dedicated a player is. Now, Sony is offering players the chance to earn PlayStation Network Credits by unlocking these trophies. Unfortunately for international PlayStation console owners, it’s only available to US players.

To earn the PSN credits, PlayStation players will need to earn Silver, Gold, and Platinum trophies. 100 Silver trophies result in 100 points, 25 Gold trophies net 250 points, and 10 Platinum trophies will provide players with 1,000 points. These points can then be used on the PlayStation Store. Unfortunately, trophies earned before the new feature was implemented will not be counted, PlayStation Lifestyle reports.

As Comicbook.com notes, having 1,000 PSN points is equivalent to having $10 in credits. This would be enough to net players some microtransaction items such as skins or new weapons. It could also be used to buy some of the cheaper DLC available. By racking up points, and subsequently credits, players can potentially have enough to buy entirely new games.

This could be applied to future titles such as the upcoming God of War, which will likely be expensive. Being able to earn credits by simply playing games certainly provides those with a limited budget the ability to enjoy more of what Sony has to offer.

As to how these trophies are earned, they basically depend on certain objectives that developers built into the game. Simple accomplishments such as killing a certain number of enemies or earning a specific amount of money will net players Bronze trophies while more complicated tasks such as unreasonable timed events could give way to Gold or Platinum trophies.

For those who don’t see any changes with their PSN accounts right now, Sony says that it takes a while for the points to reflect. As such, players can simply wait and see.
