Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is one of the highly anticipated video games that was announced recently. Unfortunately, developer Treyarch already dismissed rumors pointing to the title’s Nintendo Switch port.
The news may have arrived as a shock to many fans because, as Screen Rant recalled, all speculations leading to the official announcement of Black Ops 4 always mentioned a Nintendo Switch version of the game.
Screen Rant also noted that other previously speculated details about the upcoming Call of Duty installment have already been confirmed the lack of a single-player campaign and the addition of a battle royale mode, which are both first-time cases for the franchise.
However, unfortunately for owners of Nintendo Switch, the rumor that they are getting their version of the upcoming first-person shooter game turned out to be inaccurate as it confirmed by no less than Treyarch.
Treyarch senior producer and gameplay designer, Matt Scronce, was asked about the release of a Switch port for Black Ops 4 in a recent interview with Twinfinite. He, then, immediately answered, “No there is not.”
The profitability of releasing a hugely followed franchise like Call of Duty on Nintendo Switch is not hard to foresee considering the console’s massive success in the market on a global scale. This is likely the reason why reports are still counting on several possibilities where Black Ops 4’s Switch port remains a likely affair, despite Treyarch’s statement.
For one, Screen Rant also pointed out on a photo that previously circulated online where a Black Ops 4 casing was placed within the Nintendo Switch aisle in one of the GameStop stores in Europe. Though this could be a mistake on the part of GameStop, the report welcomes the possibility that game publisher Activision is just delaying the announcement of the game’s Switch port.
Meanwhile, it is also being suggested that Treyarch’s latest response to the Black Ops 4 on Switch rumors is technically true as they could be more focused on perfecting the game for heavy-duty consoles. But Activision enlisting help from a different game developer to work on the highly rumored Switch port is also a possibility.
For now, Black Ops 4 has been announced to launch on Friday, Oct. 12 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
