Fans may not be hearing plenty of update about “Transformers 7” at this point, but it was not always the case. In recent years, Paramount has had apparent plans for the franchise’s future after the release of “Bumblebee.”
Due to several reasons like an underwhelming box office performance, the studio is now reportedly aiming for drastic changes. This could open the possibility for a franchise reboot in the years to come.
‘Transformers 7’ development: Is the movie intended as a franchise reboot?
When Michael Bay posted an open letter on his website that also felt like his actual farewell note from the series, he confirmed that they created a writer’s room that benefited the plot of “The Last Knight.” The main goal was to connect all earlier movies’ stories, thus, opening more possibilities to explore the “Transformers” universe. One would think that this writer’s room would have enough ideas to extend the franchise for “Transformers 7.”
Before “Bumblebee” was released in 2018, Paramount pulled out “Transformers 7” from its June 2019 release date and questions about the franchise’s future flooded. That was when the speculations started that the unreleased film could be a reboot.
However, people attached to the production of the franchise do not seem like the idea of calling the next movie a reboot. “Transformers” movie series producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura had previously stated hating the use of the word “reboot” but also said, “We are going to do another big Transformers movie. It is going to be different than the ones that we've done before.”
‘Transformers 7’ release date: When can fans expect its premiere?
It appears that the “Transformers” series is on hiatus following the release of “Bumblebee” and no sequels or another spinoff is confirmed to be in development right now. That makes it difficult to estimate when “Transformers 7” would be released.
If fans would want to guess, they can take a look at the list of Hasbro-Paramount movie projects in the pipeline. The reported movies include “G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes” slated to premiere in 2020 followed by “Micronauts” and an untitled film based on “Dungeons & Dragons” in 2021. If these companies open the “Transformers” writer’s room again for “Transformers 7,” the earliest possible release date would be in 2022.
