Trailer For 10-Episode TV Drama On Digital Currency Released

The growing popularity of digital currencies such as bitcoin is being discussed frequently these days. It was quite natural for the entertainment industry to catch on to this trend.

Sony’s free streaming network Crackle has released the first trailer of the 10-episode drama “StartUp” which revolves around digital currency.

The series is about the startup company that is pitching ‘GenCoin’ – that is unregulated and untraceable digital currency. It is set in the streets of Miami and shows how a company gets funded with dirty money from groups like a Haitian gang, to build a business and keep it all secret from the FBI agent who has the power to make or break those he comes in contact with.

““StartUp” will explore what happens when a brilliant tech idea gets to the hands of the wrong kind of “tech entrepreneurs””, Indiewire said.

Although details about the series are not much available, it is expected to spread more awareness about digital currencies. The trailer starts off saying:

“50 percent of the world’s population doesn’t have a bank account, but almost all of them have a cell phone. That’s GenCoin.”

Being produced by Critical Content and Hollywood Gang Productions, the series will star Martin Freeman (“Sherlock”) and Adam Brody (“The League”). The production will begin again this week in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The news about this TV series first floated in the media earlier this year, when Variety reported that the show started filming in San Juan, Puerto Rico in January.

“‘Start Up’ carries out our promise to continue our commitment to quality drama,” Variety quoted Eric Berger, g.m. of Crackle and exec VP of Sony Pictures Television Digital Networks. “We are working with a top-notch team to produce a project that explores the motivations and complexities of creating a new venture, while walking a fine line between crime and legitimacy.”
