Blizzard is known for a lot of great titles, from its classic “Warcraft” game to its latest “Overwatch” online shooter. However, even this illustrious gaming company can make some terrible projects, which it thankfully decided to scrap. As to be expected, though, the internet just uncovered one of these games and shared it with everyone. In related news, veteran Blizzard chief Chris Metzen has announced his retirement.
The cancelled project is called “Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans, Wired reports, and it was axed 18 years ago. Keeping in mind that it was made a long time ago, the clunky controls can probably be forgiven. However, even with Blizzard’s propensity to value silliness, the developers seemed to have gone a step too far with this one and they realized this.
The leak was first posted on the fan site Scrolls Of Lore, which is dedicated to everything related to the Warcraft franchise. It was put up by someone with the username Reidor who has since removed the link after getting contacted by Blizzard.
With the internet being what it is, however, it’s pretty much too late and this shameful secret by one of the most successful video game companies is out in the light forever. The leak didn’t stop at just informing the general public of the existence of the cancelled title. Some even managed to get the game running.
With regards to the retirement of Metzen, his post on Battle.net indicates that his reasons involved wanting to spend more time with his family. This Blizzard veteran has been with the company for a long time and has been involved in the development of some of the company’s biggest titles, including “Diablo” and “Overwatch.” It’s safe to say that Metzen is leaving an incredible legacy behind, with millions playing practically every title he had a hand in making.
