“The Punisher” season 2 is the next Marvel series to stream on Netflix. The show’s filming has wrapped up for several months now and fans are anticipating to hear of its premiere date announcement soon.
This week, Netflix released a promo video listing the best titles arriving in the streaming platform in January 2019. The company enumerated new titles from other production studios as well as Netflix-produced shows and movies. And serving as a Marvel Cinematic Universe-like closing credits surprise, the same promo video featured a teaser for “The Punisher” season 2.
Unfortunately, the “The Punisher” season 2 snippet in the said promo video does not say anything about the upcoming plot details. Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) is only seen placing a gun on the passenger seat and starting a van. It is obviously an illustration that the show will return with new episodes soon.
However, it is important to note that “The Punisher” season 2 was not included in the list of Netflix Originals that would premiere in January 2019. As mentioned, it was only attached in the closing credits and concluded with the phrase, “Coming soon.”
If “The Punisher” season 2 will, indeed, premiere in January 2019 it is quite bizarre why Netflix would not make that message clear in the video they dropped this week. So, at the moment, it is safe to assume that a new season will not air within that month. But, as Netflix implied, it will come out anytime soon.
Meanwhile, there are worries that “The Punisher” season 2 would be Frank Castle’s final hurrah. Gizmodo noted that Netflix was lately on a cancellation spree that already affected “Iron Fist,” “Daredevil,” and “Luke Cage.”
“The Punisher” season 2 premiere could be happening sometime in early 2019 but Marvel and Netflix are yet to reveal important plot details. However, it was previously reported, through behind-the-scenes photos, that Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) is most likely the next main villain.
