This week’s episode ended with a shocking announcement courtesy of Shaun (Freddie Highmore). But how this will affect his relationship with Lea (Paige Spara) is most likely one of the highlights of “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5.
The official synopsis for “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5 hints that the viewers will be watching how Lea will react to Shaun’s surprise from this week’s episode. The teaser from ABC reads, “Shaun and Lea change the terms of their current relationship.”
For a brief recap, Lea’s return from Hershey initially resulted in a series of disagreements. But at the end of episode 4, the two seemed to finally bury the hatchet and enjoyed some karaoke moments. However, Shaun sang his announcement that he got the two-bedroom apartment Lea wanted. This is certainly a topic to be further discussed in “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5.
Lea was obviously surprised by the news. But episode 4 ended even before the viewers could tell for sure if she was happy about it or not. “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5 will possibly have the answers.
Before the airing of “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5, fans can get some clues from showrunner David Shore. “[Shaun] does something wonderful and then oversteps at the same time. Those little victories and the little steps forward mean so much, but the little steps backward also mean so much,” Shore told IndieWire.
The preview for “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5 indicates that the recovery of Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) will be a continuing arc. The snippets in the video teaser suggest that Dr. Glassman will overcome the psychotic hallucinations he experienced this week. But he will become stubborn and rejects every medical advice Shaun provides.
The “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5 preview shows Shaun is highly worried that Dr. Glassman deliberately ignores his physical therapy sessions. And, at one point, Dr. Glassman says Shaun’s medical advice and worrying are “annoying.”
Another highlight case for “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5 involves an anorexic patient who is in dire need of a heart surgery. The patient needs to gain a certain weight before the doctors can go on with the procedure. This complication and the little time they have will lead to a serious argument between Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) and Dr. Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez).
Unfortunately, there will be a one-week break before “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 5 goes on the air. The next episode, titled “Carrots,” will be released on Monday, Oct. 29, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
