Vail, Colorado, Aug. 16, 2017 -- Six of the most well prepared orthopaedic fellows in the country are moving on with knowledge and experience many physicians envy. Those fellows are now graduates of one of the most prestigious sports medicine fellowship programs in the world: the renowned program at The Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI).

In late July, the 2016-17 class of fellows was honored at the annual Hail and Farewell celebration in Vail, Colorado, the home of the clinic and institute.
Members of the 2016-17 class are: Salvatore J. Frangiamore, MD, MS Youngstown, Ohio, Andrew Geeslin, MD, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Jonathan A. Godin, MD, MBA, Flint, Michigan, Patrick Kane, MD, Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Geof Lebus, MD, Fort Worth, Texas and Sandeep Mannava, MD, PhD., Utica, New York.
Every year a group of select fellows who have completed their orthopaedic residencies come to Vail to expand their surgical and research skills. Their focus is on the causes, treatment and prevention of injuries while performing and assisting in about 2,500 surgeries. In addition, each fellow has completed an original research project suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
Dan Drawbaugh, CEO of The Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute pointed out the significance of the fellowship program.
“Our medical fellows and athletic resident programs are considered among the most prestigious throughout the country, “said Drawbaugh. “Congratulations to all who have been carefully chosen to be here.”
Over the last 27 years, 225 Fellows have completed the 12-month program, and nine more are on their way.
The class of 2017-18 consists of nine physicians and includes a Foot and Ankle Fellow and a Hip and Pelvis Reconstruction Fellow. It’s the largest group of fellows ever accepted at The Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. As their predecessors did, the new fellows will rotate among the world’s best orthopedic surgical teams and be part of cutting edge research in regenerative sports medicine.
Catherine Logan, M.D., a member of this year’s class said, “It is an honor to have been selected to spend the year training with world renown doctors in a state of the art facility in Vail, Colorado. I am confident this opportunity will exceed my expectations and broaden my sports medicine knowledge and enhance my medical practice well into the future.”
In addition to the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program, The Steadman Clinic also offers Athletic Training Residencies. The 2017-18 class has seven members. Nearly 100 have graduated.
The focus of the year-long program is on the athletic trainer’s knowledge and skills specializing in orthopaedics while working directly with The Steadman Clinic orthopaedic physicians. The residents are also given the opportunity to participate in a variety of community outreach programs.
