For most modern smartphone users, the requirements for a unit to pass all depend on which features are the most popular at that moment. Better cameras, faster processors, user friendliness, and of course, a stylish body; these and more are the usual suspects in determining how successful a phone will be. However, there are renegade makers that create smartphones, which cater to an extremely niche market. One such unit is the “Cat S60,” which is made by “Bullit Mobile” for Caterpillar, the company that builds bulldozers.
As one might expect from a company that is known for making the most hardworking machines to take on the most grueling tasks, the “Cat S60” is not exactly a mainstream device, according to Android Police. Instead, it’s built like a tank and tough enough to withstand punishment that would reduce other smartphones to scrap.
Unfortunately, its ruggedness does have the trade off in terms of size, weight, and handling. It’s simply much heavier than your average, modern smartphone and it’s also thicker. Since the current trend of smart devices leans more towards the “thinner is better” direction, this is not going to make the “S60” an attractive prospect for most smartphone owners.
On the other hand, The Verge also notes the phone’s ability to give owners infrared vision, which is largely associated with the aliens in the “Predator” franchise. Basically, it’s a thermal image camera that no other smartphone is offering right now.
The thermal imaging feature is quite effective at detecting heat signatures, able to find temperature variations in any area for over 100 feet. For those who are working in industries where getting pinpoint accuracy in measuring temperature is a necessity, the ‘Cat S60” is also perfect since it allows users to determine the temperature of a given object or the overall temperature of the image captured.
